THE PROBLEM

Lately I’ve heard many Millennials and Gen Z say they “don’t know where to go out in Sydney anymore.” This project aims to change that.

RESEARCH

Via 22 x Typeform surveys and 6 x one-on-one phone interviews asking the following questions:

  • Do you know where to go out in Sydney?

  • Where do you usually look to decide what to do on a night out?

  • What products as in websites or apps have you tried using to plan a night out?

  • What’s the biggest pain point to planning a night out?

  • How might we increase nightlife options for Millenials and Gen Z in Sydney?

    How might we make planning a night out easier?

    How might we reignite excitement for Sydney’s nightlife post-Covid?

  • Centralise and improve access to discovery

Through this research, it’s apparent that most Millennials and Gen Z turn to social media (Instagram predominantly) for inspiration when it comes to going out at night.

Therefore it would be a safe bet to make discovery easily accessible via this channel.

I drafted early wireframes and flows to introduce the concept to existing Instagram users and to gather feedback about whether the idea seemed useful, feasible and logical.

SUMMARY

The solution centralises the discovery and planning process seamlessly. It also simplifies the planning process by enhancing the DM function beyond what users are already manually doing themselves, and is forward thinking by using AI to help craft those messages.

NEXT STEPS

  • Development and further testing especially in metropolitan areas, before expanding it’s range

  • Test how engaged businesses are with the new functions of ‘capacity’, Instagram story links, and Instagram page links for user retention
